Exchange 2003 SP1 & SBS 2003 OWA Problem
Har du planer om at installere Exchange 2003 SP1 på en SBS 2003 server skal du være klar over du vil opleve nedenstående OWA problem:
Som SBS 2003 admin's ved er det som standard ikke nødvendigt at angive DOMAIN\user på OWA login siden (Forms-based Authentication), som ellers er tilfældet med Exchange 2003. Når du installerer SP1 bliver OWA login-siden erstattet, og vil efterfølgende påkræve du angiver DOMAIN\user istedet for blot user i username feltet. SBS produkt gruppen er klar over problemet og arbejder på en løsning.
Indtil da kan du rette problemet på nedenstående måde:
- Gå i IIS Manageren
- Udvid Default Web Site
- Højreklik på Exchange virtual folderen
- Vælg Properties > Directory Security
- Klik Edit under Authentication and Access control
- Indsæt dit domain i Default Domain feltet
- Klik Ok > Ok
Selvom DS2MB processen bør overskrive indstillingerne i IIS, har denne løsning virket for mig.
Exchange 2003 SP1 ændrer også på den måde store.exe rapporterer memory-forbrug på (oprindeligt bliver database cachen talt som mapped bytes, men i SP1 er det ændret til private bytes), det betyder man vil få Store.exe advarsler som egentlig ikke har nogen betydning som sådan.
Advarslen indeholder nedenstående:
"The store.exe process is allocating more memory than usual.
Check to see if you are having problems with e-mail. If so, stop and then restart the Microsoft Exchange Information Store service."

Mere snak om Exchange's fremtidsplaner, denne gang er det David Thompson (som er top-boss for Exchange Server gruppen) der svarer på spørgsmål.
"Microsoft Corp. will dump the "Kodiak" code name that had been tagged to the next release of Exchange Server e-mail and calendaring product and will deliver the functionality planned for that release in pieces, the company said at its Tech Ed conference in San Diego."

Microsoft dropper Kodiak
Det er en realitet, Microsoft har valgt at droppe planerne om at udgive den næste version af Exchange, som går under kodeordet Kodiak.
"In a surprise move, Microsoft revealed yesterday that the company plans to kill the next major version of Microsoft Exchange Server, code-named Kodiak, and will instead plot a future course of smaller upgrades to Exchange Server 2003. These upgrades will, over time, comprise what would have made up the feature set for Kodiak, which Microsoft originally planned to release in 2005."

Outlook Web Access 2003 Web Administration
Det vælter ud med nye Exchange 2003 Add-on's idag, jeg har læst så meget dokumentation at jeg er nær "information overflow" syndromet
"The Outlook Web Access (OWA) administration tool provides web-based UI for all administrator tunable OWA settings. It provides a list of all servers in the domain and allows administration of OWA settings on all Front-end and Back-end servers. The tool ensures that settings are correctly written to the server’s registry and provides inline documentation for all configurable features."

Simple scripting gets Exchange Server moving
Endnu et effektivt "shutdown Exchange Services script" i mængden, som mange måske allerede ved er det, særligt på servere der både er Domain Controllere samt Exchange Servere, en god idé at stoppe Exchange services manuelt inden en shutdown, ellers kan det tage mere end 10 minutter at lukke serveren ned (se evt. mere her).

Traylook Add-in For Outlook
Gør du ligesom jeg brug af rules der flytter mails til forskellige foldere, afhængig af diverse kriterier såsom afsender, emne etc., synes du sikkert også det mildest talt er frustrerende, Outlook ikke giver besked når der kommer mail der bliver flyttet til andre foldere end inbox'en.

IMF Spam filter & Exchange 2003 SP1 bliver lanceret på TechEd
Der sker store ting og sager i slutningen af maj måned 2004, der bliver både IMF (Intelligent Message Filter) samt Exchange 2003 SP1 udgivet.
Ikke nok med det, som de fleste Exchange Admin's er klar var den oprindelige plan at tilbyde IMF udelukkende til SA (Software Assurance) kunder, men IMF vil muligvis blive tilbudt alle typer kunder - Microsoft er stadigvæk ved at træffe den endelige beslutning, vi krydser fingre.
Blandt nyhederne i Exchange 2003 SP1 vil bl.a. være support for flere sprog, en auto-accept agent, bedre muligheder for arkivering (message journaling), adskillige nye administrative tools, såsom væsentligt forbedret RPC/HTTP setup tool, samt et [IBM/Lotus Notes] migration tool.

1. Outlook is the reason we have so many email viruses
At one time, a long, long time ago, this statement was somewhat true as Outlook was a favorite target of many virus writers. Can you blame the virus writers? Outlook is the most used email client and any exploit or virus that was targeted to the programmability of Outlook had millions of users to spread it. However, it's no longer true and hasn't been since the release of the E-mail security patch dated June 2000. In fact, updated versions of Outlook are as safe as or safer than any e-mail client available. Because the current crop of viruses are spread many different ways and don't need Outlook's (or Outlook Express's) address book, e-mail viruses would not disappear if everyone switched to other e-mail programs.
