Ontrack Powercontrols og Exchange 2003 SP1

Benytter du Ontrack's Powercontrols skal du være opmærksom på version 2.10 ikke fungerer korrekt med Exchange 2003 SP1:

"Microsoft released Service Pack 1 for Exchange 2003 recently. The service pack modifies the .EDB file in such a way that earlier versions of PowerControls will not work correctly with SP1 installed. Even existing EDBs that were created before the update are affected. Any new pages created will have the new page header format and will not work with PowerControls 2.0 or earlier.

A free update adding Exchange 2003 SP1 compatibility to PowerControls 2.10 was released on June 29th, 2004. To obtain this update, open PowerControls (while connected to the internet) and select EasyUpdate from the Help menu.

If you are running version 2.0 or earlier, you will need to upgrade to 2.10 in order to add SP1 compatibility. Contact your KrollOntrack sales representative for upgrade pricing.

Next Exchange might get "log shipping" support

Ifølge Bink.nu vil den næste version af Exchange muligvis supportere "log shipping":

"At a Exchange session the speaker revealed that the Exchange team is researching “log shipping” support for the next version of Exchange, just like SQL has log shipping.

What is Log Shipping (in SQL)

Essentially, log shipping is the process of automating the backup of database and transaction log files on a production SQL server, and then restoring them onto a standby server. But this is not all. The key feature of log shipping is that is will automatically backup transaction logs throughout the day (for whatever interval you specify) and automatically restore them on the standby server. This in effect keeps the two SQL Servers in "synch". Should the production server fail, all you have to do is point the users to the new server, and you are all set. Well, its not really that easy, but it comes close if you put enough effort into your log shipping setup. more on sql log shipping at this source
