Microsoft Reorganizes to Unify RTC, Exchange
Microsoft announced on Monday that it is merging the Microsoft Exchange email server platform into the Real-Time Collaboration (RTC) Group in a reorganization designed to unify the communications platforms under the direction of Anoop Gupta, currently corporate vice president of the RTC division.
The newly formed group, known as the Unified Communications Group (UCG), is designed to align Microsoft’s own development efforts internally to accelerate the delivery of “innovative business-communications solutions that provide rich, unified communication capabilities” for customers, the software giant said in a bulletin posted to the Microsoft Web site.
The new group will reside in Microsoft’s Business Division led by President Jeff Raikes and allows Microsoft to bring into line the product roadmap of both Exchange and RTC, which is responsible for product lines such as Microsoft Office Live Communications Server. Now, solutions that address e-mail, instant messaging, audio/video/Web conferencing and VoIP capabilities will encompass a more strategic vision, Gupta said.
“The merger brings together key assets related to UC in a tightly connected team, making it easier to ensure we have well-aligned priorities, an integrated R&D platform, and the best partner ecosystem to rapidly deliver innovative solutions that address key customer pain points and provide the highest business value,” the rising Microsoft star said.
Gupta has long argued that unified collaborative efforts, particularly in the communications field, only yield better solutions. For example, there are 800 directories at Microsoft that correspond to various PBXs that don’t need to be there, Gupta stated in its keynote address at the INTERNET TELEPHONY Conference & Expo, West, back in October.

Exchange Unified Messaging Integrates Communications
Exchange Unified Messaging
Every morning from New York to London to Tokyo, people walk into their office buildings, grab a cup of tea or coffee, and head to their office. They then log into their e-mail to check their mail messages. Afterwards they pick up their phones and call into their voicemail. Finally they might run down the hall to the fax machine to check for faxes. They repeat these steps over and over throughout their day, even transcribing a voicemail into e-mail or reading a fax into a colleague's voicemail.
It's been this way for decades—three different systems to manage three different types of communications, and three different sets of tools to access them. Microsoft Outlook is for e-mail, phones are for voicemail, fax machines are for faxes. But why does it have to be this way? The environment in which we work is not what it was five or ten years ago, so why should the way we deal with messaging and collaboration be the same? Why can't we get both our voicemail and faxes in our inbox? We can use a phone to access voicemail, but why can't we call in and get our e-mail messages? Why are communications separate rather than integrated?

Managing your Windows infrastructure from Windows Mobile devices
Following on from my post in relation to the CompactDBA solution - I thought it'd be useful to provide a detailed list of other management solutions so that IT professionals can manage their infrastructure from outside the office, whilst travelling and mobile!
The majority of products are only available for Pocket PC devices due to the larger screen size of the PPC. However there are some great solutions out there:
Command Line Access and beyond (Expand Beyond Corp.- PocketAdmin) - http://www.xb.com/products/pocketadmin
This solution gives you full command line and browser based access so you can securely manage the objects in your Active Directory as well as workstations and servers including mailbox and queue management within Exchange Server
They even have a free 15-day trial!
Fault diagnosis, user mgmt (Avocent/Sonic Mobility Sonicadmin)
This allows full fault diagnosis, user management and other capabilities - they have a very cool flash demo at:

In-depth look at the Public Folder Improvements in Exchange 2003 Service Pack 2
).
In this article well take an in-depth look at the new Public Folder improvements included in Exchange 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2).
The biggest as well as most notable improvement in Exchange 2003 SP2 is without discussion the new Public Folder Settings Wizard, which was specifically made in order to make administration of Public Folders more efficient. The primary reason here was to eliminate the high number of support calls Microsoft Support Services received on Public Folder issues.

Ny IMF opdatering klar!

Microsoft Security Bulletin MS06-003: Vulnerability in TNEF Decoding in Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Exchange Could Allow Remote Code Execution (902412)
This update resolves a newly-discovered, privately-reported vulnerability that could allow an attacker to run arbitrary code on the system. The vulnerability is documented in the Vulnerability Details section of this bulletin.
On vulnerable versions of Outlook, Office Language Interface Packs, Office MultiLanguage Packs or Office Multilingual User Interface Packs, if a user is logged on with administrative user rights, an attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could take complete control of the client workstation. An attacker could then install programs; view, change, or delete data; or create new accounts with full user rights. Users whose accounts are configured to have fewer user rights on the system could be less impacted than users who operate with administrative user rights.
On vulnerable versions of Exchange, an attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could take complete control of an affected system. This vulnerability could be exploited automatically without user interaction. An attacker could then install programs; view, change, or delete data; or create new accounts with full user rights.
We recommend that customers apply the update immediately.
Læs mere samt hent den her.
PS

I just now (a minute ago) learned that the March disc shipments will include a special treat: a special beta release of the upcoming version of Exchange Server code-named Exchange 12.
This came straight from the mouth of the TechNet Subscription Program Manager to us in the room full of world-wide IT Pro Evangelists today.
