Ny version af Newsgator
Newsgator har udgivet Newsgator i version 2.5.12.
"NewsGator Outlook edition 2.5 (service release 2.5.12) is now available. We recommend all 2.5 users download this update; among the changes are:

Ændring af Database Begrænsningen i Exchange 2003 SP2
Som de fleste efterhånden ved bliver 16GB database loftet, med Exchange 2003 Service Pack 2, endelig elimineret. Den nye begrænsning bliver istedet 75GB på henholdsvis mailboks samt public folder databasen, det betyder du fremover vil have 150GB at gøre godt med (fremfor 32GB som hidtil). Absolut ikke en dårlig forbedring at inkludere i en Service Pack.

More Bad News For Lotus Notes

"NEW YORK - The past few years have been rough for IBM’s Lotus Notes e-mail and collaboration program. And now there is more bad news.
Two top market research firms, Gartner and IDC, have published new reports showing IBM (nyse: IBM - news - people ) lost yet more e-mail market share to Microsoft (nasdaq: MSFT - news - people ) in 2004.
Both research firms now say Microsoft Exchange is king of e-mail, a market Notes once dominated with more than a 60% share.
IDC says sales of Exchange grew 23% in 2004, to $950 million, while Notes sales grew 5% to $745 million. By the end of 2004, Exchange held 51% of the market, versus 40% for Notes, IDC says. That’s a wider gap than in 2003, when IDC estimated Exchange held a 47% market share versus 43% for Notes."

"The value for the PR_ACCESS property that is returned from the DAV PROPFIND method is always read-only in Exchange Server 2003
SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, the value for the PR_ACCESS property that is returned from the Distributed Authoring and Versioning (DAV) PROPFIND method is always MAPI_ACCESS_READ (read-only).

CAUSE
This problem occurs because DAV only requests Read permissions when DAV opens the message on the server. Therefore the PR_ACCESS value that is returned from the EcGetProps() function call is always read-only. DAV always responds with a value of "2" (Read) on the property query regardless of the credentials that are used to access the PR_ACCESS property "

"In Exchange 12 (“E12”), we have focused our public API story on:
- Web Services for accessing information stored on the server
- Managed Agents for processing mail flowing through the server
- Windows Scripting Shell (Monad) “cmdlets” for managing the server itself
The Sep 15 PDC presentation, Future Directions - Building Custom Applications for Exchange 12 APIs, provides a great overview of these great new developer interfaces. Our new Web Services will offer remotely-accessible Outlook-compatible business logic for all PIM types. Our new Managed Agent APIs for processing mail flow provide full access to either the raw MIME or message parts Outlook renders. Our new Monad scripting experience delivers the power and ease-of-use that our customers deserve. All of these new API’s have been designed with Visual Studio development in mind.
We use these API’s ourselves to build layers of the E12 product (i.e. Outlook “12” calls the Web Services, E12 anti-spam is completely implemented as Managed Agents, and our new admin GUI is entirely coded to the new cmdlets). This first-hand experience with the new API’s gives me confidence that you’ll find it much easier when you write applications which interface with E12."

More details on Standard DB limit size increase in Exchange 2003 SP2
Endnu flere detaljer omkring hvorledes du ændrer begrænsningen på EDB databaserne i Exchange 2003 SP2. Som de fleste ved sætter Exchange 2003 SP2 den som standard til 18GB.
"As we mentioned before here, Exchange 2003 SP2 brings us increased database size limits for Exchange 2003 Standard servers with SP2 installed. There is more here than meets the eye, however, and I wanted to cover what the changes are exactly and how to configure this new functionality.
I should note here that the changes to new database size limit functionality have to be done through Windows Registry and there is no UI in ESM at this time. Please be careful! Those registry keys are read during database (not service) startup and when each limit check task is run.
Additionally, registry parameters have to be set for each database targeted for size limit modification. The registry entries should be located under each database entry in the local server registry (please note that by default, registry entries mentioned below are NOT present; by creating them, you are overriding the “default” value set in code). Accordingly, the registry keys must manually be re-set if the server has to be rebuilt using the /disasterecovery setup switch."

IE7 Beta - tjek af version
Kan du ligesom jeg ikke holde nalderne fra Beta software har du højst sandsynligt overvejet at smide IE7 Beta på din maskine. Jeg kunne ihvertfald ikke modstå fristelsen, men løb da temmelig hurtigt ind i problemer med bl.a. min netbank, der foretager et tjek af ens browser-version ved logon. Den netbank jeg benytter mener simpelthen IE7 er for gammel, så hvad gør man så? Heldigvis kan man snyde lidt ved at tilføje en registreringsnøglen "Version"="MSIE 6.0" under nedenstående sti:

On Digital Photos, Overseas Travel, and Outlook Web Access
Det her er uden tvivl det sejeste OWA trick jeg har set længe...
"Since Windows 2000, the Windows shell has supported something called “web folders”, where you can browse the files and folders on a website in exactly the same way you browse your local disk. You can do this today on SharePoint sites, in fact – if the URL http://server/sites/mysite/doclib points to a document library, you can enter \\server\sites\mysite\doclib into the Start/Run dialog and get an Explorer window just as if you’d typed “c:\” into that dialog.
Now, the underlying transport for web folders is DAV (“distributed authoring and versioning” – I guess “daav” would have looked too Dutch), which is a set of extensions to HTTP, and which happens to be one of the APIs for talking to Exchange. So if Exchange is happy to service DAV requests, and if the Windows XP machine that I’m using at the internet café is happy to issue DAV requests in support of its “web folders” feature, how do I connect the two?"

Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2004 provides many features for securely publishing resources to the Internet with the use of application layer filters. The purpose of this document is to detail how to more effectively use the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) and Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) filtering capabilities to secure a Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 environment connected to the Internet by using ISA Server 2004.
ISA Server 2004 has a built-in wizard, called the New Mail Server Publishing Rule Wizard, which is designed to assist in the creation of rules required to publish mail and Exchange servers. This guide details how to use the New Mail Server Publishing Rule Wizard and additionally configure the HTTP and SMTP filters appropriately for an Exchange Server 2003 environment."

IBM Delivers Notes And Domino 7

"After more than a year in beta testing, Lotus Notes and Domino 7 were unveiled by IBM Wednesday, and touted as a more productive alternative to the market-leading Microsoft Exchange.
Among the new features in IBM's flagship messaging and collaboration platform, said IBM executives in a telephone press conference Wednesday morning, are enhancements for IT administrators, developers, and end-users.
"The Notes client has more than 100 new features and incremental improvements, including automatic saving of the client state so it remembers where the user was when it's next launched," said Ken Bisconti, the vice president of the IBM group in charge of Lotus' Notes, Domino, and Workplace. Other improvements range from closer ties to Microsoft's Office 2003 applications and expanded use of instant messaging within the e-mail and collaboration client."

Exchange 12 will ship on DVD
Så er det en realitet E12 bliver udgivet på DVD (nej desværre snakker ikke om en kommende Hollywood film ).
"A while back, we asked you what you thought about having Exchange 12 ship on DVD. We also did some market and customer research outside of the blog and carefully weighed all of the feedback together to make our decision: Exchange 12 will ship on a single DVD.

Pocket Earth
Et af de fedeste programmer jeg har set længe!
Pocket Earth er en applikation, der kan installeres på din PocketPC eller PocketPhone og herfra forbinde til Microsoft's Virtual Earth. Det vil altså sige du kan se satelit billeder via GPRS, WIFI eller 3G (dog lidt sløvt over GPRS) på din MS PocketPC/PocketPhone.
Desværre understøtter Pocket Virtual Earth, indtil videre, kun Nord Amerika. Men applikationen er et tydeligt eksempel på hvor vi bevæger os henad.
Det bliver spændende at se om Google Earth har ligeså gode API'er som Microsoft Virtual Earth, tiden vil vise...
